Products
Subscriptions
Monthly or yearly products with an optional trial, billed by your payment provider. Today that means Stripe.
Which providers can bill one
Only Stripe can bill a subscription. A subscription product offered through any other method is refused at checkout before anything is created, so no customer is ever charged once and then never again.
Setting one up
- Connect Stripe, including the second webhook signing secret for the subscription route. Without it, checkout refuses subscription products.
- Create a product of type Subscription and choose monthly or yearly, and a trial length if you want one. Zero days charges immediately.
- Publish it. It sells through the same checkout as everything else.
What you and the customer can do
- Move a customer to another plan. Stripe works out the proration.
- Pause and resume collection.
- The customer cancels from their portal and keeps access until the end of the period they paid for. They can undo that before the date.
- Offer one retention discount when they cancel, applied once as a Stripe coupon.
- The customer sees their invoices and updates their card on Stripe's hosted page.
Not supported
- Usage-based or metered billing. A subscription is a fixed price.
- Discount codes on subscription products.
