Payments

How checkout works

What a customer sees at checkout, which payment methods are offered to them, and what happens to the order afterwards.

Sellstamp holds none of your money

Every method pays into an account you own: your processor account, your bank or your wallet. Card details are only ever typed on the processor’s own page. Sellstamp never sees them, never holds a balance for you, and has no payout schedule of its own. See Payouts.

Which methods a customer sees

The methods you connected under Payments, minus any that cannot take the currency this order is charged in. Each method declares its currencies, so a customer never picks one that would fail at the last step.

Currencies are never converted. A second currency is a price you typed, per product and per option, and the charge is exactly that number.

Three shapes of payment

Hosted page
Stripe, PayPal, Mollie, Monri, Paystack, Flutterwave, Xendit, Mercado Pago, CoinGate, BTCPay Server. The customer is sent to the processor's page and comes back paid. The processor confirms the payment to Sellstamp by webhook.
Scan or tap
KEKS Pay. The customer scans a QR code or taps a link, pays in an app, and the processor confirms it.
Pay, then you confirm
Bank transfer, cash on delivery, IPS QR, EPC QR, Pix, UPI, PromptPay, PayNow, PayID and custom methods. The customer is shown how to pay. You mark the order paid when the money arrives.

What the order goes through

  1. The order is created as awaiting payment. For methods you confirm by hand, it stays there until you do.
  2. Once paid, it is delivered: download links, licence or serial keys, a Discord role if you set one, and the receipt email.
  3. A physical order then waits in awaiting shipment until you mark it posted.
  4. Invoices are issued at the moment of payment. See Invoices.

Tax, credit and coupons

VAT and tax settings are under Tax & invoicing. The order is worked out as subtotal, then coupon, then shipping, then tax. A customer balance is then applied against the total, as a way of paying, not as a discount.

What checkout refuses

  • An identifier on your blacklist.
  • A burst that looks like card testing: fifteen attempts from one browser, or fifty from one network, within ten minutes. The block is temporary and says how long it lasts.
  • A subscription product on any provider but Stripe.
  • A connection whose payout destination changed in the last 24 hours. See Payouts.
