Add page numbers to PDF

Add page numbers to a PDF in the position, format and size you choose, such as “Page 3 of 12” at the bottom centre, optionally skipping the cover.

Choose or drop a PDF. It is opened in this tab and never uploaded.

Your file stays on your device

Your browser opens and processes the file itself. It is never uploaded, to Sellstamp or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

Selling a PDF?

An ebook, a guide or a workbook: Sellstamp gives it a storefront and delivers it automatically the moment someone pays. Open a free store

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Set the format, for example Page {n} of {total}.
  3. Choose the position, the first number and the text size.
  4. Press “Add page numbers” and download it.

Your files are not uploaded

The PDF is put together by this browser tab. Your files are read from your device, processed here, and the result is handed back to you as a download. Nothing is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else, so there is no copy on a server to worry about afterwards, and no upload to wait for.

Where the numbers go

Numbers are placed 10 mm from the edge of each page as you see it, so on a page stored sideways (common in scans) the number still lands at the bottom of what you read, the right way up. They are set in Helvetica, which every PDF reader has, so no font is added to the file.

Characters

Helvetica covers Western European letters. A format with letters it does not have, such as č, ć and đ, or Cyrillic, Greek or Asian scripts, is drawn as a sharp picture of the text in your system’s font instead: it prints the same, but cannot be selected or searched.

Questions

Can I start numbering at a number other than 1?

Yes. Set “Start at” to any number, for example 5 for a chapter that continues another file.

Can I leave the cover page without a number?

Yes. Tick “Leave the first page unnumbered”; numbering starts at page 2.

Can I write “Stranica” or “Seite”?

Yes. Latin words use the built-in font; letters such as č, ć and đ, and Cyrillic, are drawn as a picture of the text, so they print but cannot be selected.

Do the numbers cover my content?

They sit 10 mm from the edge. If your pages have content in that margin, choose a top position or a smaller size.
