Text to speech

Have text read aloud by your device’s own voices, with the voice, speed and pitch you choose. By default only voices on your device are offered.

Online voices (marked “online”) send your text to the company that runs them, such as Google or Microsoft, to be spoken. Voices on your device do not.

Stays on your device

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type the text.
  2. Pick a voice, speed and pitch.
  3. Press Speak; pause, resume or stop at any time.

Which voices, and where your text goes

The voices are the ones your device and browser provide. Voices stored on your device speak without sending anything anywhere, and they are the only ones listed at first. Some browsers also offer online voices, run by Google, Microsoft or Apple, which send the text to that company to be spoken; tick “Also show online voices” to use them, and they are marked as online.

No audio file

Browsers let a page speak but not record what is spoken, so this tool reads aloud and cannot save an MP3.

Questions

Can I download the speech as an MP3?

No. Browsers do not let web pages record their own speech output.

Why are there only a few voices?

The voices come from your device. Your operating system’s accessibility settings can add more.

Is my text sent anywhere?

Not with the voices listed by default, which run on your device. Online voices send the text to their provider, and are only shown if you ask.

Can it read other languages?

Yes, if your device has a voice for the language; pick it from the list.
