HTML to Markdown

Convert HTML to clean Markdown in your browser: headings, lists, links, emphasis and code blocks, ready for a README, a CMS or notes.

Stays on your device

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else.

How to use it

  1. Paste HTML.
  2. Check the Markdown that appears below as you type.
  3. Copy it, or download it as a .md file.

Your text stays on this page

Everything happens in this browser tab as you type. Nothing you paste is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else, so it is safe to use with drafts, contracts or anything you would rather not upload.

What converts

Headings become # headings, lists become - and 1. lists, links and images keep their addresses, bold and italic become ** and *, and code becomes fenced blocks, using the Turndown library. Tables and layout markup have no plain Markdown form and come out as text.

The HTML is read without running scripts or loading anything it links to.

Questions

Are tables converted?

No: plain Markdown has no tables, so their text is kept without the grid.

What happens to styles and scripts?

They are dropped. Markdown carries content, not styling.

Can I paste a whole web page’s source?

Yes, but navigation and footers come along too; paste just the article part for a clean result.

Is anything fetched from the links?

No. Links are kept as text; nothing is loaded.
