YAML to JSON

Convert YAML to formatted JSON in your browser, and see exactly where a YAML file is invalid.

Stays on your device

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else.

Building something to sell?

Sellstamp has a storefront, a checkout into your own payment account, automatic delivery and an API with webhooks. Open a free store

How to use it

  1. Paste the YAML.
  2. Fix any error at the line it names.
  3. Copy or download the JSON.

Nothing you paste leaves this page

The conversion runs in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else, which matters for configuration files, customer exports and tokens.

Safe parsing

YAML is parsed by the yaml library, which never runs code from the document and limits aliases, so a “billion laughs” file cannot expand into gigabytes. Comments are dropped, since JSON has none.

Questions

Why is “no” turned into false?

It is not, in YAML 1.2, which this tool uses: only true and false are booleans.

Where are my comments?

JSON cannot hold comments, so they are dropped.

What does the error mean?

It names the line and column where the YAML stopped making sense: often a wrong indent or a tab.

Can it handle several documents in one file?

It reads the first document. Split the file at --- to convert the others.
