URL encode decode

Percent-encode text for a URL or decode an encoded URL in your browser, and see a URL’s query parameters listed one by one.

Direction

Off encodes everything, which is right for one query value.

Stays on your device

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else.

Building something to sell?

Sellstamp has a storefront, a checkout into your own payment account, automatic delivery and an API with webhooks. Open a free store

How to use it

  1. Choose encode or decode.
  2. Paste the text or the URL.
  3. Copy the result; for a full URL, read its parameters below.

Nothing you paste leaves this page

The conversion runs in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else, which matters for configuration files, customer exports and tokens.

One value, or a whole URL

Encoding a single query value should escape everything, including & and =, which is the default (encodeURIComponent). Tick the whole-URL option to keep the characters that give a URL its structure (encodeURI). Decoding also turns + into a space, as forms send it.

Questions

What is the difference between encoding a value and a URL?

A value must escape & = ? and /, or it would break the URL around it. A whole URL keeps them.

Why does %20 appear instead of spaces?

Spaces are not allowed in URLs, so they are written as %20 (or + in form data).

Why does decoding fail?

The text has a % not followed by two hexadecimal digits, or bytes that are not valid UTF-8.

Can I see the parameters of a long URL?

Yes. Paste the full URL and each parameter is listed with its decoded value.
