PDF to text

Extract the text from a PDF in your browser and download it as a .txt file, keeping line breaks or joined into paragraphs. Scanned PDFs need OCR, which this does not do.

Choose or drop a PDF. It is opened in this tab and never uploaded.

Your file stays on your device

Your browser opens and processes the file itself. It is never uploaded, to Sellstamp or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the page.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Leave pages empty for all, or type a range.
  3. Choose whether to keep line breaks or join lines into paragraphs.
  4. Press “Extract the text”, check the preview, and download it.

Your files are not uploaded

The PDF is put together by this browser tab. Your files are read from your device, processed here, and the result is handed back to you as a download. Nothing is sent to Sellstamp or anyone else, so there is no copy on a server to worry about afterwards, and no upload to wait for.

What can be extracted

Text that is stored as text in the PDF, which is most documents made on a computer. The order follows the order the text was written into the file, which for columns or tables is not always reading order.

Scanned PDFs

A scan is a picture of text. There is no text in it to extract, and reading it needs OCR (optical character recognition), which this tool does not do. If nothing comes out, the page tells you that is the likely reason.

Questions

Why is the extracted text empty?

The PDF is probably a scan: its pages are images of text. Extracting text from those needs OCR, which this tool does not do.

Why are lines broken in the middle of sentences?

PDFs store text line by line. Choose “Join into paragraphs” to merge lines back into paragraphs.

Does it keep tables and columns?

Not their layout. Text comes out in the order it was written into the file, which for columns may mix them.

Can it read Cyrillic or Japanese text?

Yes. Text in any script comes out as it is stored in the PDF.
